The once vociferous politicians who defected to the saffron side have now suddenly become silent. It is a wise strategy to tame the wild species which is now paying dividends.
Why on earth did they defect lock, stock and barrel? Why did they jeopardize their political career just for a song? The stock answer of development is unconvincing. Self-development couched as a supreme sacrifice is more appropriate answer.
The promised berths in the Cabinet are nowhere in sight and is causing untold misery and pain to them. But, neither a word of protest nor even a murmur. Like obedient students they have suppressed their voices.
It is rumoured that huge sums of money were disbursed to buy their allegiance as quid pro quo to switch sides. It is also most likely that the skeletons of ill-gotten wealth will not be investigated.
The defectors now find themselves sucked into the black hole by lure, threats and intimidation and there is no way back.
The true development is that the ruling dispensation has ensured the roadblocks to their unfettered reign. The high command is so powerful that slightest public discontent is nipped in the bud.
The only option for them is to resign en masse, not that it will dent any image but at least salvage their honour and seek respect for future prospects as return of the prodigals.
