Expressing concern over the growing pressure on infrastructure, especially water and electricity, members of the Colva gram sabha on Sunday called for a ban on large-scale villa projects in the village. They proposed that no housing project should have more than three villas.

At the meeting, chaired by Sarpanch Tereza Fernandes, members strongly opposed proposed housing developments with villas and swimming pools.

They pointed out that several areas in Colva already face low water pressure and warned that such projects would worsen water and power shortages for residents.

After detailed discussions, the gram sabha passed a resolution recommending a limit of three villas per housing project.

Members also highlighted several issues in the budget estimates prepared by the panchayat. They asked the panchayat to correct these and present revised estimates at the next meeting. Due to these concerns, the meeting was adjourned.

Questions were also raised about the panchayat’s decision to collect market sopo departmentally, as rules require such collections to be auctioned.

Sarpanch Tereza Fernandes said the meeting was adjourned to allow corrections to the budget. She assured members that their suggestions would be considered and that the meeting would resume once the issues are resolved.
