Activist advocate Aires Rodrigues has on Monday filed a complaint with the Director of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Old Goa over the allegedly illegal palatial bungalow built by Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar at Old Goa.
A copy of the complaint has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, Adv Rodrigues informed.
In his complaint, Adv Rodrigues stated that Madkaikar’s new bungalow, built through his company Nikitasha Realtors Pvt Ltd, has flouted several building norms by constructing within the prohibited 300 mts from the central protected monument, Basilica of Bom Jesus Church at Old Goa with the compound wall of the bungalow being less than 50 mts from the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The complaint mentions that on June 13, 2011, Madkaikar in reply to the show cause notice issued by the ASI had given a written undertaking to dismantle within three months the fencing which falls within 100 mts of the protected monument.
Later on November 3, 2015, ASI had issued a notice to Madkaikar directing him to stop construction activity within the prohibited 300 mts from the centrally-protected monument.
However, Madkaikar allegedly chose to ignore it.
On the same date, ASI had directed the Old Goa Police inspector to register an FIRT against Madkaikar over the unauthorized compound wall.
“But, the ASI did not pursue the matter beyond this despite the violation being so blatant,” Adv Rodrigues has said in a press statement.
The activist has now called upon the ASI to conduct an inspection of the illegal construction at the earliest and to order the immediate demolition of the structure which is in violation of law.
