Confusion and chaos prevailed at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) on day one to affix High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on old vehicles in Vasco.
According to the Vasco RTO Office, the existing number plates on vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019, should be replaced with HSRP from Tuesday onwards, as per a public notice issued by the Directorate of Transport.
“Vehicle owners not complying with HSRP could be treated as offenders under the MV Act. There was total confusion over the installation of HSRP today. Some people came to the RTO office in Vasco and were only told to go to the new RTO Citizen Service Centre at Baina.”
“The process to install HSRPs has begun but since today was the first day, not many people arrived at the new RTO Citizen Service Centre (CSC). It is not something to be done immediately on the first day itself. It can be done within a time frame and since it was the first day, not many people must have gone to the new premises,” said an RTO officer on condition of anonymity.
However, sources in the RTO CSC said the system was not working and people had to go back. “There was a rush in the new RTO CSC in Baina. There was a different counter set up for installation of HSRP and there were some different people handling the HSRP registration.”
“They were having a separate system and computers for these people as well. But apparently, there were some issues in the system. We feel the system was not set today but that should be rectified and HSRP will be installed from Thursday. We are expecting the rush to start from Thursday since Wednesday is a holiday,” said the source.
