Cong confident of unity in Oppn ranks despite visible cracks

PANAJI

Amidst visible cracks in Goa’s Opposition ranks, State Congress president Girish Chodankar on Tuesday sought to project confidence in forging a united front ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. “We are confident of forging a broader alliance with all Opposition parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). We are ready to approach any party for an alliance because the people of Goa have given us the message to take the lead in uniting the Opposition,” Chodankar said on Tuesday.

He revealed that preliminary talks with parties had already taken place and formal discussions would begin soon.

Chodankar also urged Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai and his colleagues to conclude alliance talks quickly and in a positive atmosphere.

He also claimed that Sardesai’s complaint of being left out of a United Opposition strategy meeting stemmed from a communication gap.

The remarks come a day after Chodankar and AAP state president Valmiki Naik publicly sparred over each other’s sincerity in forging unity.

While Chodankar accused the AAP local leadership of targeting Congress held constituencies, Naik hit back at his counterpart with an identical accusation.

Chodankar had also alleged that the AAP was undermining Congress strongholds even while speaking of alliance.
