MARGAO
Congress Goa social media coordinator Captain Glen Lacerda on Sunday said the party must rethink its candidate selection for the forthcoming Assembly elections and prioritise leaders with strong grassroots support rather than party positions.
“Elections are fought among the people. Candidates must have a genuine connection with the electorate,” he said.
Lacerda called for constituency-wise assessments based on grassroots support, public acceptance, organisational strength, accessibility and ability to mobilise voters.
“Having a designation does not mean having people’s confidence. Leaders and workers who have quietly built support and stayed connected with ordinary Goans must be recognised,” he said.
He said Congress could not repeat past mistakes, adding that its legacy alone would not win elections. “We need winnable candidates, committed workers and leaders who can take the Congress message to every household,” he said.
Lacerda urged the leadership to set aside personal preferences, groupism and factional considerations. “If Congress wants to return to power, select candidates based on people’s support, not internal recommendations. Let the people’s voice guide the party,” he said.
