The Congress party appears divided over the question of the party attending the rally of the mining dependents at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.

After Leader of the Opposition, Babu Kavlekar gave an unconditional support to the mining affected people of Goa, going to the extent of saying that he along with GPCC president Girish Chodankar will attend the rally at Jantar Mantar, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday said the party should not attend the rally in New Delhi. “I am of the firm opinion that the Opposition should not attend the Jantar Mantar rally. The BJP is fooling the mining dependents again. These people knowingly go to the BJP, when the ruling party has no solution in sight.”

Saying that this amounts to disrespect to the Opposition, he said the Opposition will be only wasting their time if they attend the rally at New Delhi. “No matter how much we tell them, that we are with them, they will not believe in us. These people should be told clearly of the factual position vis-à-vis mining,” he added.

The three-time Congress MLA further claimed the market is abuzz with reports that the ruling government has plans to give mining leases to new players from outside the State without adhering to the norms.

Reginaldo’s stand assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of Babu Kavlekar’s statement that he along with GPCC chief Girish Chodankar will surely attend the scheduled rally at Jantar Mantar. In fact, Babu had stated that he would call a meeting of the CLP to request the Party MLAs to join the rally and also request Goa desk in-charge Chellakumar to attend the rally.

“The current BJP led inefficient government has completely failed in handling the mining issue. It has been very clear that the government has no concrete plan to restart the mining. They are just giving fake promises. I along with my party extend unconditional support to mining affected people of Goa. I and GPCC President Girish Chodankar will surely attend the scheduled rally to be held at Jantar mantar and very soon I will call the CLP meeting to request all our CLP members to join the rally. I will also request our Goa desk incharge Chellakumar to attend the rally,” Kavlekar had stated.

 in his statement.

Kavlekar had further stated that he along with Girish and Chellakumar will again meet party National president Rahul Gandhi to brief him about the party’s support to the amendment to be tabled in the parliament.

In his statement, the CLP leader had stated that the BJP party leaders seemed more interested in fooling people than the actual action. “I personally approached Vinay Tendulker and asked him to fix an appointment with Prime Minister as it is high time for his intervention. There is no point in meeting any other minister,” Kavlekar had stated in his statement.
