Claiming that the BJP would be reduced to a single digit in the assembly elections, Congress leaders on Tuesday were confident that the Congress-Goa Forward alliance would win majority of seats and form the next government.
Congress State in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao was speaking to reporters after Congress leaders convened a meeting with all its candidates along with Goa Forward candidates in the party office on Tuesday, to work out strategies once the results are declared.
“The Congress party will win in Uttarakhand and Goa. This is the feedback we have got from the ground and from private exit polls. The Congress will form the next government in both these stated,” said Rao.
Thanking the people for the high voter turnout, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said their assessment had indicated that the BJP would be reduced to below 10 MLAs.
Added Opposition leader Digambar Kamat: "If we get 24, 25 or 26 seats, it will not be a surprise. From our feedback, we can say that those who are claiming to get 22 seats are being arrogant and this arrogance will come down after results are declared on March 10.”
Congress leaders have been mindful about the political fiasco following the 2017 assembly elections, when the Congress was the single largest party with 17 MLAs only to be reduced to just 2 MLAs before the February 14 assembly elections.
Among the “precautions” initiated to ensure that this disaster is not repeated, the Congress has got all its 37 candidates to take an oath in religious places and to sign affidavits promising that they would not defect from the party during their five-year term, if they are elected.
Goa Forward supremo Vijai Sardesai said the alliance with Congress would continue and was also confident that the alliance would form the next government in the State.
