The South Goa District Committee was busy scrutinizing applications from prospective candidates intending to contest the March 22 elections for the South Goa Zilla Panchayat body.
Till late Thursday evening, the committee was busy compiling the names of the candidates before the list is forwarded to the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee for further action.
GPCC vice-President M K Sheikh was seen at the district party office on late Friday evening, with sources saying that he was supposed to take possession of the list from the district panel.
Sources in the know informed that the district office has received names of two candidates, Sonia Fernandes and Vinda Naik for the Guirdolim seat, which falls in Cuncolim Assembly constituency.
Leader of the seafarers community, Dixon Vaz, who has been given the task to get the names of prospective candidates, is believed to have shortlisted two names for the Benaulim seat, name Royla Fernandes and Roy Barretto.
As far as the Colva seat is concerned, the name of Suzie Fernandes along with another name was suggested to the district panel by Vaz. Colva has been reserved for OBC this time round.
With the Nuvem block committee no more existing after it was dissolved after Congress MLA Wilfred D’Sa joined the BJP in July last, Nuvem party leader, Everson Vales is expected to suggest the name of the party candidate for the Nuvem seat, which is reserved for women (ST).
For the two ZP seats of Davorlim and Navelim in Navelim constituency represented by Congress veteran Luizinho Faleiro, around five names were received for the Davorlim seat, while there was a lone name for the Navelim seat, sources said.
