Questioning the State government’s flip flop over holding of school exams, the Congress on Saturday said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should first make up his mind and then announce the exam schedule instead of confusing the student community and the parents.
North Goa District Congress President Vijay Bhike informed that the Chief Minister in the morning announced that Standard IX and XI exams will be conducted offline but then suddenly the Education department issued a circular late in the night declaring that exams for Standard IX and XI exams will be held online.
“Is this government playing with the education system? The constant change in exam schedule confuses not only the students but also the teachers and the parents. The government can hold the exams in whichever way it desires but once it takes a decision it should remain firm on it,” Bhike said.
The North Goa District Congress chief was addressing a news conference along with NSUI North Goa President, Naushad Chowdhari in the party office in Mapusa.
Speaking further, Bhike said the government should provide proper guidelines/directions to students of standard X who will be answering their board exams for the first time.
He further said that the government has failed to take necessary precautions when it mattered and therefore Covid cases were spiraling in the State.
“The government has no control whatsoever on the night life in Goa. Covid cases are increasing because of casinos and full blown parties that are held in various clubs in the State,” he said.
Coming down heavily on the police functioning in the State, Bhike said it appeared that the Director General of Police has no control on the police machinery as police personnel were only involved in collecting revenue for the government.
“If Mumbai Police can come to Goa and arrest drug peddlers then what are the Goa Police doing? Is the DGP come for a holiday in Goa?” he asked.
NSUI North Goa President, Naushad Chowdhari said due to NUSI’s sustained campaign all exams were conducted online last year.
“This time Covid cases are increasing exponentially. The government needs to take a firm decision on holding the exams one way or the other and announce it well in advance so that the students can study in a proper frame of mind,” Chowdhari said.
He disclosed that a lot of students have also tested positive in the State and further informed that other States have shut down schools and started online classes.
