Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Babu Kavlekar on Monday said that the Congress leadership will announce the candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats well in advance this time round.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the South Goa District Congress party programme on Monday evening held to pay tributes to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, Kavlekar and South Goa district President Joe Dias said the party will come out with the candidates for both the North and South Goa Lok Sabha seats well in advance. “Our candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats will be announced well in advance well ahead of the election schedule in 2019,” Babu said.

Earlier, the CLP leader paid rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, recalling the decisions taken by the former Prime Minister in strengthening the local self government bodies with the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments. “Rajiv Gandhi had identified himself with the down trodden and the marginalised sections of society. People will always remember him as a great leader who brought a revolution in the telecom sector,” he said.

In his address, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that sacrifices made by Congress leaders, including Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi cannot be forgotten.

Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa and others were present.
