Demanding that all posts of Medical Specialist in the Goa Medical College (GMC) should be advertised, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco said it is mandatory that these posts need to be advertised to get the best medical specialists in the hospital.

Saying that the upcoming 500 bed super-speciality block at the Goa Medical College (GMC) hospital, Bambolim would also have a gastroenterology department, the Congress MLAs pointed out that the government has already announced that Dr Harish Peshwe would be setting up this unit without advertising for the post for gastroenterologist for this important department.

“Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is doing notable work and he is keen in changing the health care system for the people of Goa by taking quality health care to the doorsteps of Goemkars. I would like to inform him that GMC is the oldest college in Asia where outstanding doctors from its inception till date have given commendable service to the people of Goa and neighbouring States,” he said, while underscoring the need to advertise for the specialist posts in both the local and national media.

Demanding a ban on all backdoor appointments in GMC, Reginaldo requested Rane not to lower his guard on appointing the best specialists in the super-speciality block of GMC.

“GMC is a premier institute and it has remained outstanding in its medical service and health care because of the brains of lot of doctors along with the labour and sweat of its nursing and technical staff that have endeavoured selflessly and this has kept GMC on the top for years,” he said.

“We hope to see GMC hospital climbing higher on the ladder of glory but if appointment process of medical specialists is not transparent, it will give rise to speculation and this would jeopardise the status of GMC,” he said, while appreciating the government’s recent order that has been issued for the benefit of the IPHB doctors.
