Seeking to turn its 27-day long ‘Goy Rakhonn Yatra' into a broader Opposition mobilisation ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, the Congress has appealed to like-minded political parties, NGOs, students, social activists and non-Congress people to join the campaign.
The yatra will traverse all 40 Assembly constituencies from September 22 to October 18. The Congress’ official campaign schedule confirms the 27-day programme across the State, with the party describing it as a campaign focused on protecting Goa’s future. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to attend the concluding programme on October 18.
AICC general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal will officially flag off the Yatra from Cumbharjua on September 23.
Addressing media persons on Monday, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said the party wants to bring people together around issues concerning Goa’s land, identity and communal harmony.
Alemao said the yatra would move from north to south, with Congress leaders interacting with residents and listening to local concerns. He appealed to political groups and individuals to set aside their differences and join the campaign.
“We appeal to all the like-minded people, political parties, social activist, individuals, NGOs and citizens to come together and be part of the yatra,” he said.
“The focus is to protect our harmony and Goemkarpon,” Alemao said, while alleging that the BJP government was responsible for a series of scams and controversies, including Section 39A, the jobs-for-cash issue, smart meters and the Porvorim flyover.
He said Congress, if voted to power in 2027, would withdraw and cancel Section 39A and conduct a detailed inquiry into the jobs-for-cash issue.
GPCC chief Girish Chodankar said the yatra would provide a platform for people to raise their concerns directly with Congress leaders. He said a ‘Goenkarancho Maand’ programme would be held in the evenings to allow people to interact with the party leadership.
