Congress show-causes Bhike for ‘derogatory’ remarks against GF

MAPUSA

The Congress on Saturday issued a show-cause notice and threatened disciplinary action against its North Goa leader Vijay Bhike for his “derogatory” remarks against Goa Forward Party (GFP).

The party also sought an explanation from Bhike for his conduct within three days and threatened disciplinary action against him.

“You have made certain derogatory remarks against our alliance partner Goa Forward Party and its leader, Vijai Sardessai, MLA, suo moto, without taking the party into confidence and without authorisation and contrary to the stand of the Indian National Congress,” said M K Shaikh, Sr Vice President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.

On Wednesday, the North Goa District Congress President Vijay Bhike had said that the party’s alliance with Goa Forward Party had been a huge mistake and the Congress did not benefit in any manner from the alliance due to mismanagement by some State party leaders.

Shaikh said the statements by the North Goa District chief were unwarranted, and not only damaged the standing of the Congress but also raised doubts about the genuineness of the alliance which continues to be in existence even as of date.

“It is evident that such reckless statements are not only malicious but also intended to jeopardise the healthy alliance between the two parties,” he said.

The Sr GPCC Vice President further directed Bhike to give an explanation for his conduct within three days failing which appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated against him.

Bhike not only questioned the party’s alliance with Goa Forward but also lashed out at the mismanagement by some State party leaders.

“The Congress did not benefit at all from an alliance with GFP. This alliance was a huge mistake by Congress. We received good cooperation from central leaders but we lost due to mismanagement by some State party leaders,” Bhike had said at a press meet in Mapusa.

Allotting Mandrem to GFP a mistake, maintains Bhike

MAPUSA:

North Goa District Congress President Vijay Bhike on Saturday maintained that the party had made a mistake by giving the Mandrem seat to Goa Forward Party (GFP) when Congress had done extremely well in the constituency in the 2017 assembly polls.

Bhike also said that he has received a message on WhatsApp about the show-cause notice and was waiting for a formal notice on the letterhead from the party.

“In 2017 assembly polls, our then-candidate Dayanand Sopte had won by a big margin in Mandrem. Allotting the seat to GFP when Congress had done so well in the constituency was a mistake,” Bhike said.

Bhike, however, refused to go into the details of the show-cause notice saying that he was yet to get a formal notice.
