PANAJI
Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Rohit Monserrate is expected to retain his position, but a reshuffle in the deputy mayor and other four major committees are expected to take place on March 30 as part of an annual exercise.
Deputy Mayor Vasant Agashikar, who had been serving in the post for two years, has already conveyed to the BJP that he is not interested in retaining the post. However, a few CCP corporators are reportedly eyeing that position.
"I have been deputy mayor during the term of former Mayor Uday Madakaikar and now with Mayor Rohit Monserrate. This time, I have decided not to seek that position due to personal reasons,” said Agashikar.
Sources said Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate, whose panel has a majority in the CCP, has not taken any decision till now as he has been focused on the present political developments over the next government.
However, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate is likely to be elected again unopposed.
“Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate will nominate a person who has worked and will do good work in future,” said Corporator Pramay Mainkar, who is also Panaji Market committee chairman.
Meanwhile, MLA Atanasio Monserrate and both CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate were not reachable for comments.
As per CCP rules, elections to the post of CCP mayor, deputy mayor and four other committees, including the Panaji Market committee, takes place every year.
Presently, Babush Monserrate’s panel enjoys a complete majority with 25 of the 30 corporators in the CCP.
