Consumers warned against use of booster pumps to draw PWD water

The Public Works Department has warned the people of Siolim that action will be taken against consumers who have been illegally using booster pumps to draw water from PWD water supply pipeline.

MAPUSA:
According to the PWD, some consumers from Siolim were drawing water from the water supply line by using booster pumps.
The PWD in a public notice has warned consumers that if they indulge in such illegal act, then the booster pumps should be removed within seven days starting from April 20, failing which action under the Water Supply Act will be initiated against them.
“Use of booster pump is prohibited as per water supply act and bye-laws. One can attract punishment with a fine of Rs 10,000 or six months simple imprisonment,” said V M Chavan, Executive Engineer, Water Division, XVII.
He further said a police complaint will be lodged and water connection to the consumer will be disconnected permanently.
Sources in the PWD disclosed that consumers from Zorwaddo, Vagator in Anjuna Panchayat and Guddem in Siolim Marna Panchayat were using such booster pumps.
“Individual house owners make use of such booster pumps. They connect it before the water meter to escape high billing charges,” a senior PWD engineer said.
He said unauthorized use of booster pumps affects water supply to other consumers from surrounding areas.
The PWD, however, did not have any area-wise record of offenders using booster pumps.
