With a surge in Covid cases by the day, the Margao police made its presence felt at the Margao Municipal Garden to question people relaxing on the garden benches.
The action assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the decision taken by the Margao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes that the garden benches should be kept free from people as a precautionary measure.
Though the decision was taken last week, no action had been forthcoming from the Margao police in cracking the whip against people who have made the garden benches as their home.
It is not yet clear whether the Margao police has initiated the drive from Sunday or was it just an exercise to let people go with only a warning.
At the height of the Covid situation, the Margao police had drafted a Home Guard jawan to continuously move around the Municipal garden to ensure that the benches are not occupied in the interest of the thousands of people using the garden footpath everyday.
