Fish lovers from Salcete and outside made a beeline for fresh water fish at the Ralloi Tollem in Curtoirm village as the tenants Association harvested fish on Sunday.
Local fish variety such as Dadio were netted in baskets and so were other fish reared in the lake including Catla and Chonok.
Fish was netted in abundance with Chairman of the Association Seby Barretto informing that people who came from far and wide went with their fish requirement.
He pointed out that harvesting the local variety of fish was hampered by the presence of moss in the lake. However, people, who came later in the morning, were fortunate to lay their hands on the local variety of fish including Dadios.
He said the Association will go for the second harvesting of fish on coming Sunday.
Chairman of the Curtorim Bio-diversity Committee J Santan Rodrigues said Curtorim has been known as the granary of Salcete over the decades. “The farmers and the Associations store the water for irrigation of the fields and also rear fish, which is harvested after the paddy harvesting”, Santan said.
He informed that the fish harvesting in the remaining two lakes will be taken up in the coming Sundays.
