PANAJIMinister for Panchayats Rajendra Arlekar has highlighted the need of empowerment of the Panchayatiraj system which aims to decentralise power and have peoples' involvement in the development process.
Arlekar was speaking as chief guest after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a new building for Marna-Siolim Village Panachayat at Siolim on Tuesday. The function was organized by the Directorate of Panchayats. The proposed new building would be constructed at a cost of Rs1.45 crore and will be completed in about 240 days.
The building is a multipurpose building of ground floor structure having built up area of 407.62 sqmts. This project comprises construction of two separate buildings - one for the panchayat office and the another for the office of the talathi and will also house a library, gymnasium and a multipurpose hall besides the Post Office.
Arlekar further said that those who represent the people should understand the grievances of the people and should strive to fulfill their expectations of development. The new building project has been designed keeping in mind the needs of the people, he said. The long-pending dream of a new building for the village panchayat will be a reality soon, he added.
Minister for WRD Dayanand Mandrekar while speaking said that the government during its tenure has undertaken various developmental works throughout the State and the objective behind this is to strengthen the infrastructure. This shows that the government is functioning for the overall development of the people. He complimented Arlekar for his endeavor to make the project a reality.
ZP member Vassudev Korgaonkar, Deputy Sarpanch Poonam Shirodkar, Simpal Dhargalkar, Alba Sequera, deputy director Panchayat Mahesh Khorjuvenkar, EE WRD Pramod Badami and the Sarpanch of Sodium-Siolim Nilesh Vayangankar were among those who attended the function.
Sarpanch Silveater Fernandes welcomed the guests.
