Mock fire drill held
MARGAO: The King’s School carried out a fire safety drill of evacuating 1,685 students and 183 staff from the school campus in a record time of just seven minutes. The initiative was carried out by Gil D’Souza, Fire Safety officer, Margao on February 8.
The fire brigade covered a distance of five kms to The King’s School in just nine minutes. Emergency calls were also made to 108 ambulance services and to the Curtorim-Maina Police station.
The staff and students from nursery to class XII exited as per the fire safety plan and the process of search & rescue operations was carried out. The drill included a child being 'rescued' from the second floor. Students with moving disabilities and special needs were given special care.
Over the past few weeks, teachers were taken through training sessions by Gil D’Souza. Following this, Melvin Pereira, chairman, formulated a thorough plan using PPTs and training sessions.
