Correspondence in Konkani, Marathi: Depts told to reply in same language

The State government has directed all its departments and educational institutions to ensure that whenever correspondence are received in Konkani or Marathi language, the replies have to be given in the same languages.

Director Official Language Prashant Shirodkar in a circular issued has brought to the notice of the Heads of the Departments, that under the Official Language Act, 1987 the Government of Goa appointed December 19, 1987 as the date from which Konkani language would be official language for the purpose of replies by the Government whenever communications are received in Konkani and Marathi language would be used for the purpose of replies. 

"In this regard, all the Heads of Departments/Offices/Directorates /Educational Institutions /Government Agencies/Autonomous Bodies/Companies and Societies formed by the Government of Goa or receiving 100% Government Grants shall ensure that whenever correspondence are received in Konkani or Marathi language, replies is to be given in the respective language," Shirodkar said.
