MARGAO
Residents of Manora in Raia village on Monday demanded that the government immediately repair and restore the dilapidated stretch of the Manora-Nuvem road with hot mix.

The residents, led by Manuel Barbosa, John Paul Fernandes, and others, pointed out that the damaged road stretch has been the cause of several accidents in the recent past. They said the residents are not doing politics over the damaged road but are only demanding to make the road motorable and avoid accidents.

Barbosa pointed out that the residents have been highlighting the pathetic condition of the road at the gram sabha meetings over the last four years, but in vain.

“We had asked the PWD and other authorities to repair the existing road, but no one has attended to the road. It’s not because of the heavy rains that the road condition is bad. This road stretch has been in bad condition for the last four years,” he said.

Barbosa pointed out that he had personally met with an accident on the road, leaving him bedridden at home for six months. “We are not indulging in politics. We have asked the PWD to repair the road, and the road falls in their domain. This village is inhabited by the ST community. We do not understand why this road has been left unattended by the government and the PWD authorities,” he said.

John Paul Fernandes said that the PWD should have at least removed the potholes. “We have made so much correspondence to the authorities to take up the repair of the road. We fail to understand why this road is not taken up as a priority,” he said.

John Paul said if the local MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco is not interested in taking up the road work, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the PWD portfolio, should intervene and give relief to the residents.
