Some of his fellow legislators may have swanky vehicles, but that did not deter newly elected Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas from riding his trusted two-wheeler to the Secretariat in Porvorim to participate in the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday.
Living up to his tag as a simple man with a simple lifestyle, Vas had promised voters during his election campaign that he would continue to adopt a simple lifestyle even after his victory and that he would ride his two-wheeler to the assembly on his first day in public office.
Photos and a video of Vas riding a scooter to the Secretariat went viral on social media, attracting widespread praise.
His action also attracted praise and favourable comments from many MLAs after they saw the post on social media platforms. Many newly elected members walked up to him and congratulated him on his bold gesture.
After the swearing in ceremony and the traditional group photo formalities, he rode back home just like an ordinary common man.
Vas, more popularly known as ‘Anton Sir’ to supporters and fans, is known to be very simple in nature and has been involved in social work throughout the day.
