The State government has formed two marine ranges in the forest department and while the North Goa Marine range will have its headquarters in Morjim, the South Goa Marine range with be headquartered at Galgibaga.
Both ranges will be under control of Wildlife and Eco-Tourism division in North and South Goa.
The jurisdiction of these ranges has been detailed in a notification on Monday issued by Under Secretary (Forest) Sapna S N Bandodkar.
The HTL and CRZ areas of the coastline from beaches of North Goa and South Goa will be the jurisdiction of these ranges along with HTL of Tiracol, Chapora, Mandovi, Zuari rivers and their tributaries.
The Goan had earlier reported about the government’s plans to form the marine ranges, which will focus on protection and conservation of marine life.
Trained and dedicated officers in these ranges will look after work like registering offences pertaining to marine life, conservation work like turtle nesting, dolphin protection, crocodile rescue, mangrove conservation, etc.
