A special gram sabha meeting earlier called by Cortalim panchayat on Sunday to discuss issues regarding the new Cortalim market complex was cancelled.
Dy Sarpanch Raymond Desa said that the meet was cancelled after the panchayat body received a letter from the Directorate of Panchayats (DOP) that the market could not be opened unless GSIDC submits the completion order.
“We received a letter from the DOP with regards to the construction of the Cortalim market complex which stated that the project was handed over to the DOP on May 8 by GSIDC and it was subsequently handed over to the Cortalim panchayat. However, the DOP has said that it has now learnt that the project was handed over without a completion order from the TCP department. The DOP has directed us not to occupy the complex till GSIDC submits the completion order,” said Desa.
As such, a gram sabha to discuss the issues of the market complex and it’s commencement would be of no use and hence the meet was cancelled.
Desa however hoped that Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho would intervene and get the issues sorted at the earliest because the Cortalim Panchayat was paying huge amounts on rent for various premises presently housing the post, police outpost and the fish market.
It may be recalled that Desa had on 23rd September decided to call a special gram sabha on Sunday after the market complex gates and railings were found damaged during an inspection and also because they suspected that someone besides the panchayat had a set of keys to the market complex after a car and a scooter found inside the complex during the site inspection were gone a few days later though the gates were locked and the keys were in the possession of the Cortalim panchayat.
