In two brief functions organised at Cotigao and Gaondongrim, Agriculture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar handed over cheques to individuals and groups of farmers affiliated to respective Collective Farming Co-operative
Societies of Cotigao and
Gaondongrim.
In his address, he advocated the need to introduce new concepts to protect various vegetables, especially chillies, from pests and other threats.
About 54 farmers were given cheques at Cotigao, while over 60 farmers received their cheques as proceeds of vegetables sold through their respective societies by
Collective Farming.
“We are aware that a lot of hardships is faced by farmers, especially due to attack by insects and germs. The government is contemplating soil tests of agricultural/cultivation lands and wherever possible, assist farmers to tackle the attacks,” he said.
“Farmers in some of our neighbouring states are widely utilizing a technique, where the destructive germs are killed by releasing other germs, so that crops and production remains safe,” said the minister.
Canacona ZAO Shivram Naik Gaunkar, besides Chairman of Cotigao Collective Farming Credit Society and Gaondongrim Collective Farming Credit Society Ulhas Pai Bhatikar were present.
The Cotigao deputy sarpanch and a few other panchas were present at Cotigao, while Gaondongrim Sarpanch Puno Gaonkar and panchas were present at Gaondongrim.
