CANACONA
The Canacona Municipal Council chief officer has issued a show-cause and stop-work order to a resident, who also happens to be a councillor, over allegations of an illegal construction at Palolem.
It may be recalled that a social activist Sandesh Telekar had filed a complaint with the CMC chief officer, the Canacona deputy collector and other authorities regarding the construction on Palolem coast by Dayanand G Pagi, who is also the councillor representing Palolem.
Attaching the inspection report by the council in his notice/stop work order, CMC Chief Officer Raju R Dessai stated in his notice to Pagi: “...you have carried out illegal construction of structure admeasuring 12 x 6 metres and height of 3 metres consisting of 12 RCC pillars within CRZ area situated at Palolem without taking prior
permission as required
under Goa Municipalities
Act, 1968.”
Pagi has been directed to stop the work forthwith and be present in person or through duly authorised person on September 11 to show cause as to why action should not be initiated against him as per the provisions of the Municipality Act.
In the same order, the CMC CO has threatened to seal the construction site and initiate further action without any further intimation, in case either of the directions are not complied within the stipulated time.
