Court notices to govt on plea to make South dist hosp fully operational

PANAJI
The Bombay High Court at Goa on Tuesday while admitting a petition filed by Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai observed that the South Goa District Hospital should be put to full public use.

The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the State government on the petition filed by Sardesai seeking that facilities at the hospital including operation theatres, scanning rooms, crucial departments be made operational at the earliest.

Speaking to the media, party spokesperson Durgadas Kamat said that the High Court has issued notices to the State government and kept the matter for hearing on January 24.

Sardesai along with

workers of the Goa Forward Party had inspected the Hospital in September last year and issued a deadline to the Goa government to make the hospital fully operational, a deadline the government and health minister ignored.

“I will go to the High Court with a plea that the premiere South Goa district hospital is being neglected by the government and would request the Court to call both the Chief Minister and the Health Minister to make a statement on the hospital. There is a conspiracy to kill the people of South Goa so that the hospital is being handed over to private players to set up a college,” Sardesai had said in October.

The government will now have to respond before the High Court by January next year.
