Covid control room to be set up in Vasco

VASCO

A Covid control room will be set up for Vasco and operate round the clock with emergency vehicles to cater to patients during the pandemic.

The decision to set up a Covid control room was taken at a joint meeting with Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Deputy Collector Sachin Desai, health officials, councillors and others on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Deputy Collector Sachin Desai said Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and few councillors proposed a Covid control room for Vasco.

"Some councillors said they are willing to arrange some private vehicles to be used as emergency vehicles to shift patients. Following the suggestion of the Vasco MLA, we will immediately set up the Covid control room,” said Desai.

Almeida said the meeting was convened to discuss the Covid scenario with the newly elected councillors.

"Some newly elected councillors are not aware of the Covid situation and the meeting was convened to discuss the status of Covid-19 in Vasco and on the vaccination drive. Many issues regarding the hearse van and ambulance also came up for discussion," said Almeida.

Vasco BJP spokesperson Jayant Jadhav said plans are afoot to set up a 24-hour helpline at the Deputy Collector’s office to monitor the situation, attend to emergency calls and to help people.

“There were some issues faced by people regarding hearse vans and ambulances. We plan to keep an ambulance and service emergency vehicles at the Deputy Collector's office, from where it will move to different areas.”

“Our BJP karyakartas will assist the operations of the call centre. We also have plans to open a large number of vaccination centres at different locations and in different wards, so that maximum number of people can be vaccinated," said Jadhav.
