Angry locals continued to stop visitors to the waterfalls in Sattari and on Saturday, sent back a number of visitors and also barricaded routes leading to the waterfalls.
Even though visitors have been banned from visiting waterfalls in Sattari taluka, a large number of tourists have continued to visit the many seasonal waterfalls in places like Saleli, Satare and Shelpe.
The locals had appealed to visitors to adhere to orders by authorities banning visits to the waterfalls, but their appeals fell on deaf ears and visitors continued to flock to the waterfalls.
Last week, the unhappy locals sent back visitors to the waterfalls and had warned them that such visits would not be tolerated, especially during the Covid pandemic.
“A large number of tourists continue to visit the waterfalls every week and this can lead to a spread of Covid in our area,” said a villager from Saleli.
“Despite requesting them not to visit the waterfalls, they continue to do so and cause a nuisance at the site. We will continue stopping visitors to the waterfalls,” the villager added.
A similar situation prevailed at Satre, when locals sent back visitors who were proceeding to the waterfall.
