Two persons have been arrested for committing theft and decamping with 25 packets of branded cigarettes along with other material amounting to Rs 40,000, Mapusa Police informed.
A Mapusa court has remanded the duo to two days police custody.
A four-wheeler along with a scabbard knife and a metal bar hook used to commit the crime was attached by the police.
The arrested accused were Vishal Sherkhane(51) of Kolhapur and Vikas Kesarkar (32) a resident of Belguam, Karnataka.
Police informed that the accused effected entry into complainant’s shop by break opening the locks installed on main entrance and decamped with total 25 packets of cigarette 10 packets of chocolates, eight bottles of hand sanitizers make, six bottles of parachute hair oil and other items including Rs 22,000 cash.
The total property worth including cash was Rs 40,000.
During the course of investigation, police intercepted a white Alto car at Cuchelim, Mapusa and during a personal search the stolen property was found in the possession of the accused.
Both the accused admitted of their involvement in the crime.
Mapusa Police is investigating further.
