The south zone education office housed at the Old Market was closed on Tuesday and will remain shut on Wednesday too. Deputy Education Director, South Zone, Sailesh Zingde, said the decision to shut down the office was taken as a matter of abundant precaution and to sanitize the office building.
He pointed out that the decision was taken after a zonal education staffer had tested positive for coronavirus. “We have decided to shut down the office for two days as a matter of abundant caution. Today, we have sanitized the entire office building. It will reopen on Thursday,” Zingde said.
Many people, who had come to the office for routine work, were taken aback after seeing a notice put up on the entrance stating that the office will remain closed for two days for sanitization. Sources informed that close contacts of the staffers have been advised to go for tests as a matter of caution. Meanwhile, a 72-year-old male person from Malbhat-Margao, who was admitted at the ESI hospital, Margao, with comorbid condition, died on Tuesday.
