Will the government get rid of potholes and muck at the entrance of the South Goa district hospital before going in for its full commissioning on September 1? Visitors to the district hospital, including those coming for Covid tests and others for OPD services, have been going through problems relating to parking, the damaged entrance road and the muck at the entrance. Visitors have been left with no option but to walk through the muck and the potholed road to make it to the hospital. And, those coming on vehicles have been facing the bigger problem of parking. Given that the open space outside the hospital compound, which was initially proposed for a bus bay, is still not tarred, visitors have been left with no option but to park the vehicles in the space and walk through the dirt. While the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation appointed contractors are on the job to install the medical gas facility and the operation theatres inside the hospital ahead of the September 1 commissioning, no agency has been roped in to repair the damaged entrance road till date. A senior Hospicio doctor told The Goan that parking would be a big issue at the district hospital upon its commissioning, adding that the government should address the issue immediately. “There’s some place on the rear side of the building, which can be developed for vehicular parking for the visitors,” the doctor added. He pointed out that it does not augur well for a new district hospital to welcome visitors through pools of dirt water for no fault of theirs.
