In the wake of a surge in Covid cases, the South Goa district Magistrate, Ruchika Katyal, IAS, has ordered restrictions on the social, religious, sports, entertainment, educational, cultural, religious and any other gatherings in the district with effect from Thursday.
The order issued under Section 144 of the Cr PC has warned of punishment under section 188 of the IPC to any person contravening the law.
A glance at the order reveals that for halls of maximum capacity up to 100, the gathering will be permissible up to 50 per cent of the hall capacity or a maximum of 50 persons, whichever is lower.
For halls with capacity of more than 100, the gathering will be permissible up to 50 per cent of its capacity or maximum 100 persons, whichever is lower.
As far as open premises and grounds are concerned, the gathering up to 50 per cent of its capacity or maximum gathering of people up to 200 persons, whichever is lower, will be allowed.
“A fresh surge in Covid-19 cases is being witnessed in some parts of the country and the situation might further aggravate due to gatherings. In order to contain surge, certain steps are required to be taken,” the District Magistrate said, adding that it is essential to enforce social distancing to prevent the spread of the disease.
