The Tourism Department has decided to step up its crackdown on hotels, guest houses and other accommodation units that are not complying with mandatory registration requirements.

Officials, acknowledging ongoing illegal activity, have also warned of strict action against establishments that fail to submit guest check-in data through the Tourism Information Management Enterprise (TIME) application.

In a second reminder issued to all C and D category hotels registered with the department, it has directed them to ensure timely and regular submission of tourist check-in data through the TIME application.

The department stated that this is mandatory under the Goa Tourist Trade Registration Act.

The first reminder was issued in February 2026, following an order issued ahead of the peak season in September 2025.

It noted that several hotels have remained negligent despite repeated reminders and notices, and that such non-compliance affects effective tourism management and data monitoring.

“All concerned establishments are directed to strictly adhere to this requirement. Failure to submit the required data will attract penalties and fines as per the provisions of the Act,” the department said.

The department also observed that a number of hotels and guest houses are operating without valid registration licences, stating that such unauthorised operations are a violation of the law.

It warned that strict action, including closure and legal proceedings, will be taken against such establishments.

It further clarified that individuals operating accommodation through platforms such as Airbnb and other short-term rental services are also required to obtain registration from the Department of Tourism, and non-compliance in such cases will be dealt with firmly.
