SP Gurudas Kadam on Tuesday evening held a meeting with rent-a-car operators at the Dabolim Airport police station, issuing a strong warning after several complaints from tourists about overcharging and extortion.
The meeting was attended by operators working in and around the airport area. Police raised concerns over the rising number of complaints from visitors. SP Kadam said any operator found engaging in unfair practices would face strict legal action. He stressed the need to protect Goa’s image as a tourist-friendly destination.
Police said most complaints are related to high charges, lack of transparency in rental agreements, and aggressive behaviour during disputes. Operators were instructed to strictly follow guidelines and ensure all dealings with customers are fair and clear. Meanwhile, members of the rent-a-car industry said steps are being taken to address the issue. North Goa Rent-a-Car Association President Nitesh Chodankar said an association has been formed to improve operations and ensure accountability among operators.
Chodankar added that the use of Form 5 has been made compulsory so that customers are clearly informed about the terms and conditions before taking the vehicle.
He said this will help reduce misunderstandings and disputes.
He also said customers are regularly advised not to drive under the influence of alcohol, stressing that safety is a key concern for both operators and authorities.
Police have said that surprise checks and monitoring will continue in the airport area to prevent malpractice and ensure a smooth experience for tourists arriving in Goa.
