IMA Goa condemns attacks on doctors
BICHOLIM: Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa unit president Dr Medha Salkar has condemned the attitude of segments of people to attack the doctors.
Addressing local media persons, Dr Salkar said there has been a rising tendency among a section of some people to attack the doctors physically when any emergency situation arises.
“Three such incidents have taken place at Dhule, Chennai and Nasik, where the doctors were severely attacked by either the family members of the patients or by outsiders without knowing the facts,” said Dr Salkar and added that the doctors were in fact busy attending to the patients.
Dr Salkar said she will write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to address such anti-social elements through the programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ not to attack the doctors.
Condemning the past three attacks, the IMA president has requested such segments not to attack the doctors but to protect them. “It is not their mistake when any emergency situation arises,” said Salkar.
BJP murdered democracy: Mayekar
MAPUSA: Mandrem Block Congress vice-president Pramesh Mayekar on Tuesday asked BJP State president Vinay Tendulkar to conduct vigilance inquiry in the matter of a protection wall at Tiracol coast instead of filing complaint against Congress general secretary Girish Chodankar.
Speaking to local reporters, Mayekar said Goans rejected the BJP and gave a chance to Congress to come to power, but the BJP murdered democracy and kept Congress away from power.
“Goans were hurt, as injustice has been done to Congress and when Girish Chodankar raised his voice against BJP’s move, a police complaint was filed against him to suppress his voice,” he added.
“BJP should conduct investigation into the protection wall along the Tiracol coast and also find why the Tiracol bridge is left half constructed,” challenged Mayekar.
CME on Brain death concept held at GMC
PANAJI: A continous medical education (CME) programme was conducted by the Dean of Goa Medical College Dr Pradeep G Naik, on Brain Death Concepts and Diagnosis of Brain Death. Dr Ponraj Sundaram, Professor and Head, Department of Neurosurgery and Dr Aaron D’Souza, Associate Professor of Neurology were the keynote speakers.
Dr Sundaram delivered a talk on brain death concepts. He stressed on situation of artificially maintaining vital functions when brain functions have been lost irreversibly. Application of the concept of brain death then can help conserve the resources for more needy patients.He said with advance in organ transplant, the brain dead patient is also a potential organ donor.
Dr D’Souza highlighted advances in medical technology, the possibility of preserving vegetative functions in a patient without cerebral function, and the importance of organ harvesting for transplantation.
