Cross desecrated at Chandor, police suspect mischief

Residents of Chandor woke up on Wednesday to hear the shocking news of a Holy Cross desecrated by vandals near a bridge at Cavrem.

A team of Maina Curtorim police led by Police Inspector Gawde rushed to the spot after a complaint was lodged by one Pascoal, stating that the Cross near his house was vandalized by miscreants late last night.   
Sub-divisional Police officer, Margao DySP Dinraj Govekar told The Goan that the vandalism appears to be the handiwork of a miscreant who have played mischief. 
“The Cross is located below the bridge. It must have been vandalized by miscreants to play mischief,” he said.   
Local Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, who rushed to the spot, condemned the incident and appealed to the men-in-uniform to take concrete steps to nab the culprits. 
‘I condemn the incident and urge the police to take immediate steps to nab the culprits,” the MLA demanded, while making a plea to the people of Chandor to maintain peace.   
According to Maina-Curtorim police, the complainant, one Pascoal, claimed that the cross in front of his house was damaged late night on Tuesday. The miscreants allegedly damaged the Cross by taking cover of darkness, police informed.   The Maina Curtorim police have registered an FIR against unknown miscreants and investigations are on to nab the culprits.
