Cudnem mineral block hearings at Sanquelim

The environmental public hearing of Cudnem Cormolem Mineral Block- VI and Cudnem Mineral Block- VII is scheduled for September 25 and October 18, respectively.

While block VII is owned by M/s Vedanta Limited, block VI belongs to M/s JSW Steel Limited. The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will conduct public hearings of both the blocks at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim.

Block VI- Cudnem Cormolem Mineral Block is spread across an area of 38.5143 Ha, with the project proponent seeking environmental clearance for the production of 0.50 MTPA of iron ore. On the other hand, Block VII with an area of 75.3004 Ha is located in Cudnem Village in Bicholim Taluka and Sonus Vonvoliem and Onda village in Sattari Taluka. The mining firm has proposed the production of 0.5 MTPA of iron ore.

The State government has so far e-auctioned nine mineral blocks of which Vedanta Limited has already commenced operation of its mineral block at Bicholim. Whereas EC has been granted to Fomento Resources Pvt Ltd for its Advalpale-Thivim Mineral block (V) and Monte De Sirigao Mineral block belonging to Rajaram Bandekar Mines Pvt Ltd- both located in Bicholim taluka.
