OLD GOA
Panchayats in Cumbharjua constituency continued to reel due to the non-restoration of water supply for the fifth consecutive day, with some panchayats making alternate arrangements to provide relief to the villagers.
Speaking to The Goan, Carambolim Sarpanch Uttam Murgaonkar said though some PWD water tankers were provided, there are still some areas where water tankers have still not reached.
“I am receiving lots of calls from villagers for water
tankers. People are also drawing water from wells to alleviate the situation,” Murgaonkar said.
In Cumbharjua, Sarpanch Nishita Gawde informed that a few PWD water tankers were provided which were insufficient for the entire village.
“So, all panchas are now hiring private water tankers at their own expense and providing water to the villagers,” said Gawde, while adding that she herself is filling barrels with well water and providing it to villagers in her ward.
In the village of Sao Mathias in Divar, the situation was no different as Sarpanch Sadanand Phadte informed that not a single PWD water tanker had reached his village.
When asked how villagers were meeting their daily water requirements, Phadte informed that wells have come to the rescue of people.
In Corlim, Sarpanch Shiva Naik said he has asked all panchas to hire private water tankers and ration water in their respective wards so that it could provide some relief to the villagers.
