VASCO: Admitting that the newly inaugurated Chicalim sub district hospital faced a staff shortage, SDH incharge Dr Rajendra Borkar said new staff would be recruited shortly. “We are running our SDH with two ambulances and three drivers and if you ask me, we need a few more drivers so that we can refer patients more frequently to GMC. Sometimes we try and see an opportunity to send patients together because with shortage of with one driver, we cannot keep sending patients to GMC. We have shortage of other staff and the government has assured the problem would be resolved soon.”
“We have also sent a proposal for a facility management system to take care of the ACs, smoke detectors, generators, lifts, laboratory and to manage all this, we need technical staff. I have learnt after following up is that files are sent and tenders have been awarded, but they are yet to reach us,” said Dr Borkar.
Commenting on the death of the youth from suspected dengue, Dr Borkar said all efforts had been done at the SDH. “It is very sad that a youth admitted at SDH expired, but the problem is that dengue is such a disease that we cannot predict how it could worsen the health parameters of the patient. From our side, we had taken all treatment procedures.”
“I want to clarify that the NS1 test got by patients is only for suspected dengue and not a confirmation and these tests are not approved by our programme. But whether the tests are positive or negative, we treat patients as if it is a confirmed case of dengue.”
