Citizens of Cuncolim along with Goa Forward leaders Yuri and Joaquim Alemao sought the intervention of TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai as the Rs 8 crore tender floated by the Power department to upgrade and replace the ageing power lines and equipments is stuck up in the Finance department.
The delegation also impressed upon the TCP Minister to get the government sanction a dedicated full-fledged sub-station for Cuncolim and to shift the office of the Assistant Engineer from the Aquem Power house to Cuncolim in the interest of the people. They also pressed for a dedicated Electricity Junior Engineer for Cuncolim.
After giving the delegation a patient hearing, the TCP Minister spoke to the officials of the Finance department over the phone, with a plea to grant the sanction and pave way for the execution of the tender works amounting to Rs 8 crore.
The TCP Minister also spoke to Chief Electrical Engineer Reddy over the phone and told him to immediately send the assistant engineer to Cuncolim. Even as the Chief Electrical Engineer maintained that the assistant engineers function from the Power House, Aquem for want of space in Cuncolim, the TCP Minister told Reddy to immediately look out for space in Cuncolim town, including the Cuncolim industrial estate and alleviate the sufferings of the people. “Power situation in Cuncolim has collapsed and it needs an overhaul. It is the right of the people to get uninterrupted power supply. We will forcefully take up the issue and get it resolved,” he said.
Joaquim Alemao said that the tender floated by the government is stuck up at the Finance department saying no follow up was done with the department. “The power situation has only worsened and Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar was on record saying that no proposal had come from the local MLA Clafacio Dias to resolve the issues,” he said.
Yuri exuded confidence that the TCP Minister will get the tender file cleared by the Finance department and make arrangements to send power officials work from Cuncolim. “When we joined the Goa Forward last week, we had promised the people to bring about a turn around in the power situation in Cuncolim town. I am confident the party president Sardesai will get the issues resolved,” he added.
