Goa Public Service Commission has cleared backlog of over 15 years pertaining to promotions of nearly 1,100 State government officials, its chairman Jose Manual Noronha said.
“The promotions of around 1100 officers (Group A and B) have been cleared and confirmed by the GPSC. All these cases are from the last 15-20 years where the promotions were on ad-hoc basis,” Noronha said.
The GPSC has also lifted the ‘probation’ of around 600 officers. Most officers who were officiating on ad-hoc basis have been regularised, barring in some cases which were filled recently following vacancies due to the death or resignation of incumbents, he said.
Noronha said it was possible for the Commission to carry out this mammoth task due to the consistent push by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Previously, the Commission used to process only 200 such cases per year, although it was a long pending demand of Goa government employees’ association to do away with ad-hoc promotions.
“The association had submitted a memorandum voicing this demand in November 2015,” said president of Goa government employees association John Nazareth.
