South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Tuesday morning inaugurated the CCTV surveillance system for Curchorem town.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral thanked Sawaikar for providing 63 high-end CCTV cameras worth Rs 86 lakh from his MPLAD fund.
Addressing a function in the Curchorem police station, DySP Traffic (South) Prabodh Shirvoikar said: “The CCTV surveillance will bring down the number of traffic violations, thus increasing detection of anti-social activities in the vicinity."
“It is good to have a CCTV surveillance system installed in various public places which will help the police to keep an eye on various happenings and movements at public places.”
Stating that the CCTV system would help control traffic violations, DySP Shirvoikar said challans will be issued to those traffic violators caught on CCTV cameras.
In his address, Sawaikar also agreed that the CCTV surveillance system would instill discipline among motorists.
Sawaikar also informed that the Curchorem Railway Station has been selected among 100 railway stations from across India to be developed as an 'Ideal Railway Station'.
