Curtorim MLA opposes hike in power tariff

MARGAO

Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has dashed off a letter to the Secretary of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Goa with a plea not to go ahead with the proposed six per cent hike in power tariff.

He said any power hike at this time will further burden consumers who are still reeling under the onslaught of the pandemic.

“I would like to bring to your immediate notice the proposal made by the electricity department to the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for the six per cent hike in power tariff of Goa State from April 2023. It is given to understand that the said hike in power bill will further burden the consumers who are still reeling under the economic backlash of Covid19 pandemic since March 2020,” he said.

He added: “It is also given to understand that the consumers in the public hearing on February 15, 2023, have submitted objections to the proposed power hike and have requested JERC to reject the aforesaid six per cent hike in their electricity bills.”
