The Dabolim Block Congress committee launched a drive on World Environment Day to plant over 2500 saplings across Dabolim constituency.
The drive that started on June 5, will run through the monsoon.
“Dabolim is witnessing too many constructions and real estate developments, but nobody takes time out to plant a tree and restore the balance of nature,” said Francisco ‘Shikeet’ Nunes, president of Dabolim Block Congress committee, in a press note.
“So our block decided to plant saplings extensively, especially in places where there is an open space or a pavement and even an empty setback to the road,” added Nunes.
The Block on Sunday morning planted a token sapling on the occasion of World Environment Day in front of Rajhans Auditorium on the airport road.
The Block claims to have got good response from most housing societies and real estate developers handling projects across Dabolim constituency.
Gulmohar, Jacaranda and rain trees will be planted at regular intervals on both sides of the airport road, both sides of NH17B from Dabolim junction to the airport junction, all around the roads leading to the upcoming joggers park in Chicalim and around the SAG ground.
“Prominent builders have agreed to not only plant saplings, but also provide the animal guard for the tender saplings. They will be using the wet soil during the monsoons to ensure as many trees take roots as possible,” Nunes added.
For the newly-constituted Dabolim Block, this is one of the first of its many public outreach initiatives that it has planned to involve themselves with the community to green Dabolim, stated the press note.
