Dalit groups to observe Bharat Bandh today

MAPUSA

Unhappy over the Supreme Court’s verdict on the SC-ST reservations, Dalit organisations across the country have decided to hold a protest in Panaji on Wednesday.

As part of the Bharat Bandh on August 21, the SC-ST United Forum-Goa will hold a protest at Azad Maidan in Panaji from 10 am to 2 pm.

This was stated at a news conference in Mapusa on Monday which was addressed by S K Jadhav, Subhash Kerkar and Satish Korgaonkar from the SC-ST United Forum-Goa.

Kerkar said the main objective of the Bharat Bandh is to protest against the Supreme Court’s decision on reservation and demand its reversal.

“This decision will create discrimination and division in the society. This decision is anti-constitutional. Therefore, an ordinance should be issued to invalidate this decision,” said Kerkar.

Kerkar added that the central government should file a review petition in the Supreme Court.

Stating that other resolutions will be passed during this agitation, Kerkar said a statement will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office with signatures of those participating in the August 21 protest at Panaji.
