Damaged road at Ashvem inspected
PERNEM: Pernem Deputy Collector Harish Adkonkar on Thursday inspected the road that has caved in at Ashvem due to heavy rains.
Pernem Mamlatdar Rajesh Ajgaonkar, WRD officials and former Mandrem sarpanch Vishwanath Shirodkar were also present during the inspection.
About 30 years ago, a protection wall was built along the coast of Ashvem beach. Later, PWD constructed a road. However, during heavy rains and high tide, the protection wall collapsed and the road caved in.
During the high tide, waves directly hit the wall and now the remaining 500 metre stretch of road is believed to have also caved in.
Speaking to the Goan, Adkonkar said he has written to the department concerned to look into the matter.
