Drug nexus between Belagavi-Goa busted; four held

Belagavi Police busted a drug nexus between Belagavi and Goa, after arresting four persons in a raid and recovering 360 grams of opium estimated at Rs 20 lakh.
The alleged involvement of two persons from Goa among the four arrested has once again exposed the drug nexus between Belagavi and Goa, police officials have said.
According to the CID Branch of the Belagavi Police, four persons were arrested for allegedly selling opium. They were arrested near a hotel in the city on Wednesday evening when the four persons were found carrying the prohibited narcotic.
The accused were identified as Parashram Hanmant Lamani (35) and Rajaram Shashikant Suki (32), both from Goa, and Shivkumar Lingayya Hiremath (38) and Anvarhussein Masapati (50), both from Ammingad.
Briefing media persons, DySP Mahanteshwar said the police acted on a tip-off and carried out the arrests when the duo from Karnataka had procured opium from Madhya Pradesh. The drugs were being sold to Parashram and Rajaram from Vasco, who in turn, were supposed to carry the same for further supply to their clients in Goa.
Police interrogations have revealed that the two accused from Goa are allegedly involved in the illicit trade of other drugs and have a strong network in the Belagavi and Goa region.
Earlier this week, Belagavi Police had arrested eight persons for their involvement in selling of drugs like ganja, hashish, marijuana, etc.
Police team from the CID branch comprising DySP Mahanteshwar and PI N V Barmani carried out the arrests under the guidance of Police Commissioner Soumendu Mukherjee. A case has been registered at Malmaruti police station.
