While a couple of purse seine vessels recorded a bumper harvest of the solar shrimps, many a vessel returned back to the jetty
only with a moderate catch, ranging from 400 kilograms to 500 kgs.
A visit to the Cutbona fishing jetty revealed that 50 per cent of the fishing vessels had ventured out into the sea on Day one of the season, while the number of purse seine vessels was pegged at around 30 per cent.

What has come in the way of the smooth fishing season was not the weather, but the delay in the arrival of migrant labour from the states of Odisha and Jharkhand. The boat owners president said that most of the fishing vessels could not venture out into the sea for want of the migrant labour. "Our information revealed that migrant workers are presently busy back home in the paddy sowing operations. They will report to the jetties only after the operations end by next week,"
